    In-House Tournament!

Saturday, October 17 2009 is our first in-house tournament this school year! It's a great opportunity to come out to show what you've learned, see some healthy competition, and have a blast!

The event will be held in GLC Multipurpose Room (in the graduate life center), and the room opens at 10 am. Come early, stretch, warm up, and be ready for a formal bow-in at 10:30.

IMPORTANT: Advanced Belt & Black Belt sparring will likely be held at the beginning of the tournament to accommodate scheduling with the judges. If these are your divisions, SHOW UP EARLY.

Introduction

The Virginia Tech Tae Kwon Do club is an organization of martial artists dedicated to learning and teaching the Chung Do Kwan style of modern Tae Kwon Do. The club is sponsored by a parent school, Khan's Martial Arts Academy in Northern Virginia.

As a part of the club, a member learns Tae Kwon Do including techniques, self-defense, sparring, and forms. A member also learns the beliefs, philosophy, and tenets, and makes new friends who are interested in learning the Martial Arts. Each class is taught by a qualified instructor and all students are tested for belt promotion on a regular basis at the end of the semester. The Virginia Tech Tae Kwon Do Club is also a social organization, hosting end-of-the-semester banquets and slide shows, tournaments, parties, movie nights, hikes, and picnics.

The Virginia Tech Tae Kwon Do Club is student-run, and is presided over by an executive board. Its meetings are open, and members are free to attend these meetings and voice their opinions.

Student Creed

Virginia Tech Tae Kwon Do students are taught the Student Creed. It is this creed that forms the basis for learning the martial arts. The creed is as follows:

We will discipline our minds and bodies to develop our skills to their fullest potential.
We shall use our skills only in self-defense and to protect our families and communities.
Skills, wisdom, and goodness are our ultimate commitment.
